Newcastle Announces Summer Diamond Drill Program
April 23, 2007
VICTORIA, BC, April 23, 2007– Newcastle Minerals Ltd. (TSXV:NCM) is pleased to announce it is planning a $1,000,000 summer exploration program on its mineral properties situated within the Iskut River Corridor near the SNIP (produced 1.2 million tonnes at 26.2 grams per tonne gold) and Johnny Mountain Mines in northern British Columbia.
The program will follow up on the 2006 drilling campaign undertaken on the Snip North Property which consisted of five holes totaling 1,095 meters. The significant results are noted in the table below. The first phase of fieldwork will include a property-wide search for the 1988 drill collars. Geological mapping and prospecting would accompany this component. Particular attention will be devoted to detailed mapping of the Gorge showing. The Gorge showing occurs at the western boundary of the Snip North claim. This showing was discovered in 1988 by Delaware Resources and was quickly traced onto the Snip North Property. Delaware drilled a series of holes on their side and obtained some excellent results. The best result was 2.783 ounces per ton gold over 5.85 metres. In order to expose more bedrock, a program of backhoe trenching will be conducted, and any bedrock that is exposed will be mapped and sampled in detail. Special consideration will be paid to the structural framework in the area and will lead to a better understanding of the controls of mineralization.
Contingent upon success of the first phase of work, a more ambitious second phase of exploration will be undertaken. This phase of work would involve drilling 1,000 meters. The drilling would test geological, geochemical and geophysical targets identified during the first phase of work.

Bug Lake Property
The Cooper Zone is the focus of this year’s program on the Bug Lake Property. Three trenches were excavated across the zone over a strike length of approximately 75 metres during previous exploration and the best results were from the Lower Trench, where 22.3 grams per tonne gold was returned over a width of 2.5 metres. The Center Trench returned 18.4 grams per tonne gold over 1.45 metres. The Upper Trench returned 13.8 grams per tonne gold over 1.0 metre. Seven diamond drill holes were completed on the Cooper Zone. The best results were from drill hole W90-03 which returned 31.4 grams per tonne gold over 0.45 metres and 11.9 grams per tonne gold over 0.61 metres. Other positive results were from drill hole W90-02 that returned 18.0 grams per tonne gold over 0.68 metres. W90-04 also intersected the Cooper Zone, returning 2.6 grams per tonne gold over 1.07m. Previous workers have noted that magnetite is commonly associated with the precious metal mineralization. The company plans a program of backhoe trenching focused on the Cooper Zone.
Phiz Property
Stripping and trenching exposed the Phiz vein over a 24-metre strike length and an average width of three metres. Surface channel samples assayed 49.7 grams per tonne gold and 135.8 grams per tonne silver over 3.2 metres, 88.0 grams per tonne gold and 87.1 grams per tonne silver across 1.98 metres and 16.9 grams per tonne gold with 44.6 grams per tonne silver across 7.0 metres.
The company plans a program of geological mapping and prospecting followed by backhoe trenching focused on the Phiz vein. Any bedrock that is exposed will be mapped and sampled in detail.
Target Property
The Target Property comprises 17 claims (7,200 hectares) and is situated 45 kilometres east of Telegraph Creek in northwestern British Columbia.
The company intends to conduct a helicopter-borne magnetometer and radiometric survey over the property.
